At the start of Covid-19 as a Government we said we would take the necessary steps to support our economy, families and businesses throughout the pandemic. This has been one of the most challenging periods in peacetime history. Since the start of the pandemic the Government have provided more than £160 billion as part of our economic response.

This has included supporting more than 11,400 people in my Aldridge-Brownhills constituency through the Job Retention Scheme, which has provided workers with up to 80% of their wages. £9.2 million worth of Government grants have been paid to self-employed people, nearly £30 million has been paid out to local businesses in Bounce Back Loans and £9.9 million worth of grants have been handed out to businesses within days of application.

As a Government we have provided unprecedented levels of support to families and businesses and it does not stop there, as we prepare our fightback from the Covid-19 pandemic we have unveiled the New Deal to accelerate infrastructure projects as well as a plan for jobs which sets out how we create, protect and support jobs.

These remain challenging times for all of us but we have put in place support for families and businesses right across my Aldridge-Brownhills constituency.
