I was pleased to speak in last week’s debate on the Government’s proposed Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill.

As part of my contribution to the debate I welcomed the commitment by Ministers to remove the top-down centrally-driven housing targets and to allow a local led target based on the priorities of local communities.

I believe this is essential to help us protect our precious Green Belt across Aldridge-Brownhills, and I will continue to press the Government on this.

The Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill will also help local Council’s to unlock the development of small sites and facilitate a prioritisation of brownfield land.

I have long argued that we need to be a regeneration generation with new homes of the right type and in the right place.

I believe that the amended Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill gives the opportunity to respect our open spaces and build the homes we need for future generations.
