This week Government talked tough on children and smartphones — but it was nothing more than empty words.
Labour have had chance after chance to act but instead they have voted down stronger protections, opposed the bans in schools, and blocked even their own backbenchers’ attempts to step in. Now, despite clear evidence of harm and overwhelming public support, they’ve announced yet another consultation.
Other countries like Australia are already acting. The blueprint exists. What’s missing is political will.
Social media should be banned for under-16s and the Government must set out a clear timetable to deliver it.
