I was pleased to be out and about across my Aldridge-Brownhills constituency last weekend supporting Small Business Saturday. Now in its fifth year, Small Business Saturday takes place on the first shopping Saturday of December and it is the UKs most successful small business campaign.
I started the day with early visits to shops in Blackwood Road in Streetly, before meeting small businesses in Pelsall Village. Then it was off to Brownhills High Street before finishing the day in Aldridge. Throughout the day I was also grateful to take advantage of the many Christmas events taking place to be able to enjoy a cup of coffee and a mince pie along the way.
Throughout all of my visits this weekend I was incredibly impressed by all of the enterprise and innovation we have throughout Aldridge-Brownhills and I was able to see the difference that small businesses are making to the economy on a daily basis.
Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy and by shopping local we can support our town and village centres and the businesses we have here, right on our doorstep. Christmas is a good time to shop local but we should also remember the importance of shopping local all year round.
As someone who set up a small business I have always been proud as your Member of Parliament to champion our small businesses as well as ensuring they receive the support they need from the Government to be able to get on with the day job.
It was a pleasure to be able to see first-hand across the constituency all of the work which is on-going on a daily basis, so if you are a local business, please feel free to get in touch with your thoughts and ideas or if you would like me to visit your company to learn more about the work you are doing.
