Birmingham City Council have formally launched a consultation about their proposed plans to take down Perry Barr flyover.

The Council’s £27.1 million proposals include the A34 Perry Barr flyover being removed, putting all traffic onto a dual carriageway at ground level, and will have a huge impact on large numbers of residents across Aldridge-Brownhills.

Residents are able to make their views known by visiting www.birminghambeheard.org.uk/economy/a34perrybarr/ and I would strongly urge people to participate in this consultation exercise.

As your Member of Parliament I will be making my views known, because for many years commuters from my Aldridge-Brownhills constituency have been using the Perry Barr flyover. Indeed, Birmingham City Council’s own technical report highlights that their proposal to remove the flyover would actually make traffic flow worse, not to mention the disruption it is going to cause everyone concerned.

Whilst we all welcome the fact that the West Midlands is hosting the Commonwealth Games in 2022 and everyone realizes that construction work will have to be undertaken, I am concerned that this proposal to remove the Perry Barr flyover will not leave a lasting benefit of the Games but an on-going headache for commuters from across my constituency.

The consultation closes on 19th July and I would urge residents to make their views known www.birminghambeheard.org.uk/economy/a34perrybarr/.
