It’s beginning to feel a lot like summer- with many of our local organisations, community groups, and churches busy arranging their annual summer fairs, and festivals. For me, it’s a good time to be out and about around my constituency, and where I can, I try and pop in and support local events. Whether it’s calling in to the regular Saturday coffee morning and mini market at Brownhills Methodist Church, for a mug of tea and a catch up, or spending a Saturday afternoon at the Summer Fair at St Johns Church, Walsall Wood or the Streetly Festival organised by the Community Association. There are of course many others too.

The annual Aldridge Summer Fayre was an opportunity to chat up with so many of our local organisations, community groups and charities. A chance to have a go at hooking a parcel with the Aldridge Townswomens Guild, and a duck with Aldridge Rotary, and not forgetting the many tombola’s, and other activities. Well done to Aldridge Lions for once again organising this.

With forthcoming Community Fun Days at St James’ Church in Brownhills, and St Thomas’ in Aldridge, and not forgetting of course Pelsall Carnival, all in the next few weeks it promises to be a busy time ahead.

One of the undoubted highlights for me in June though was joining pupils, staff and Head Teacher Mrs Sally Miner at Ryders Hayes Primary School in Pelsall, to present them with their Respecting School Award from Unicef UK. The Unicef Silver Award is an excellent achievement and Ryders Hayes School can be very proud of this recognition.

Staying on the schools theme, I recently launched my schools competition as part of the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy Initiative. All of our local Primary Schools across Aldridge-Brownhills have been invited to enter the competition, to design a plaque and have the chance to win a tree, provided by the Woodland Trust. There are more details on my website, and I am looking forward to receiving entries. The judging will take place later in the year, by an Independent panel.

And finally, for now, I want to let you know that I am currently planning a number of pop up ‘Meet your MP’ surgeries across the constituency – an opportunity to meet with you and listen to any concerns and issues you may have. If you are a community group or organisation and are interested then please do drop me an email to wendy.morton.mp@parliament.uk
