The Home Secretary is introducing new legislation to strengthen police powers to create a new criminal offence to tackle Unauthorised Traveller Encampments.
The new offence will target trespassers who are residing on any private or public land in vehicles without permission, and where they are causing significant disruption, distress or harm to a local community.
Since first being elected in 2015 I have campaigned for the law to be strengthened to prevent repeated incursions of Unauthorised Traveller Encampments, so I am pleased that the Government intend to legislate to manage this ongoing problem.
I know that this will be welcomed right across my Aldridge-Brownhills constituency and I will continue to keep you all informed.
