News earlier today that the Oxford-AstraZeneca Coronavirus vaccine is deemed to be highly effective is the news we all wanted to hear, but we are not out of the woods yet.

The Prime Minister announced in the House of Commons a little earlier today that the current lock down restrictions will be coming to an end next week and across England we will be returning to a tiered system approach.

Everyone’s efforts right across my Aldridge-Brownhills constituency has helped to bring infection levels down and slow the spread of the virus, but the virus is still present and with no restrictions it could easily run out of control.

On Thursday we will know which tier we will be placed in. Sadly for us all this will not be a normal Christmas and tomorrow the Prime Minister will outline a package of measures which will set out how we can all see our loved ones at Christmas.

The vaccine development is great news, but we cannot slacken our resolve and we must remain vigilant and keep following the rules to keep the virus under control.
