I was extremely pleased that the Government has proposed to introduce mandatory life sentences for criminals convicted of killing emergency workers.
It’s fitting that this proposed change in the law is dedicated to PC Andrew Harper who was selflessly killed in the line of duty in 2019 whilst doing the job that he loved.
I would pay tribute to his widow Lissie and other members of Andrew’s family for the tireless work that they have done to change the law. It’s right that the law protects emergency workers who risk their lives for us on a daily basis.
