I was delighted to attend the recent Guide Dogs Open Doors event in Parliament.
I was shocked to learn that over 80% of guide dog owners have been refused access to a business or service because of their guide dog.
Quite clearly access refusals can be debilitating and humiliating, preventing people from living the lives they choose with almost half of guide dog owners saying they have changed their plans or restrict visits to avoid being refused.
Guide dogs are key for many people with sight loss to getting around independently. Guide dog owners deserve to be able to live the lives they want and feel confident, independent, and supported in the world.
I am pleased I was able to attend the event and support the initiative, and to speak with some Guide Dog owners.
