I was pleased to be invited by Walsall Housing Group to officially open “Ellum Pointe” at the Silver Court in Brownhills last week following the culmination of more than a decade of hard work by partners and local residents.

Starting with community consultation in 2005 by the Aldridge and Brownhills Housing Trust, residents views were used to draft a masterplan for the development of the Silver Court area with new housing being an integral part of its blueprint.

Having developed the site for more than 7-years, there are now new homes which have been completed across a range of tenures including affordable rent, market rent, shared ownership and rent to buy.

A central part of the regeneration work was the construction of the purpose built wellbeing scheme “Ellum Pointe”. This new scheme is for people over 55 and offers varying levels and types of support to help people stay independent in their own homes. It was constructed by Keir Living and received funding from Homes England.

At the opening we were also joined by representatives from the external stakeholders who together with WHG helped to secure this redevelopment, including, Walsall Council, Lovell, Kier, BM3, Capita, Homes England and Worcester City Council.

It was also a pleasure to meet some of the residents at “Ellum Pointe” too.
