I was delighted and honoured to attend the St George’s Day Service at St Michael’s and All Angels Church in Pelsall.
It was a real pleasure to be part of the service alongside Councillors Gary Perry, Edward Lee and Rose Martin.
A very big thank you to Reverend Alison Morris and The Rt Revd Dr Michael Ipgrave, Lord Bishop of Lichfield who conducted the service. And of course a special thank you to the Choir of St Michael’s C.E. Primary School 👏🏻👏🏻
According to folklore, St. George rescued a princess who was about to be eaten by a dragon that had settled near the city of Silene in modern-day Libya. As luck would have it, St George was passing by and saved the princess by beheading the dragon. His bravery is said to have inspired people in Silene to convert to Christianity and this act has been commemorated as an example of true chivalry ever since.
It was also wonderful to hear those hallowed words echoed at the service: – “For God, England and Saint George!!”
