A number of constituents from right across my Aldridge-Brownhills constituency have written to me to raise their concerns at the current issues taking place in the English Channel.
Crossing the channel to come to the UK illegally is not only dangerous but it is also unacceptable, and as the Prime Minister has said, we will continue to take all necessary steps to secure our borders.
The Government are taking this matter extremely seriously and as part of our response we have deployed Royal Air Force surveillance planes to support the UK Border Force to manage this on-going situation.
Last week the Home Secretary, The Rt.Hon Priti Patel MP joined the UK Border Force to see first-hand the issues being faced in the English Channel at the current time.
The Prime Minister has ensured that this matter is being dealt with at the highest levels of government with bilateral meetings taking place in Paris between the Home Office and the French Interior Ministry.
The protection of our borders is one of our highest priorities, as demonstrated by the current passage of the Immigration Bill through Parliament. I have written to the Home Secretary to request a full update for my constituents.
