Last week Birmingham City Council began works on demolishing the A34 Perry Barr flyover.
For more than 12-months I lobbied Birmingham City Council not to go ahead with the demolition of the flyover because of the detrimental impact it would have on my Aldridge-Brownhills constituents.
The demolition of the flyover is a vanity project on the part of Birmingham City Council which will lead to an increase in traffic congestion and poor air quality only making matters worse for commuters from Aldridge-Brownhills.
I remain committed to supporting the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the net benefit it will bring to the West Midlands region, however I think Birmingham City Council should concentrate on putting the correct infrastructure in place to ensure we have a Games of which we can be proud.
