This week is National Democracy Week – a week-long celebration of democracy taking place in this historic centenary year of Suffrage.
In the run up to National Democracy Week I was pleased to be able to visit Year 4 pupils at St Francis Catholic Primary School in Shelfield and attend their Class Assembly to discuss democracy and my role as a Member of Parliament. There were some fantastic questions from the pupils who were concerned about how the Government works, how they can improve their local parks and open spaces as well as some searching questions on my thoughts of the Prime Minister and the Queen.
It was a pleasure to participate in the Class Assembly and thank you to all the Staff and the Pupils for a great visit. National Democracy Week is an opportunity to celebrate the progress we have made and champion the steps we still need to take to ensure greater participation.
