It was an honour to represent my Aldridge-Brownhills constituency at the Service of Thanksgiving for the late Baroness Betty Boothroyd.
Baroness Boothroyd was a towering figure in Parliament, having served as the first female Deputy Speaker and Speaker of the House of Commons. A fierce Parliamentarian who sought to protect the rights of backbench Members of Parliament and ensured we had a Parliament that would hold the Government of the day to account.
However, Baroness Boothroyd was also a champion of the West Midlands and the Black Country having represented West Bromwich West for nearly three decades.
I was pleased to attend the Service of Thanksgiving to celebrate the life of one of the most significant female politicians of the 20th Century.
