Last weekend I was invited to The Big Poppy Knit, organised by the Pelsall branch of the Royal British Legion.  Their challenge – to the community is to cover the Village Clock with hand knitted poppies, and so last Saturday I joined some of the Knitters at the Village Centre and we knitted and nattered our way over coffee and cake to produce dozens of poppies, bringing the total to over 400 so far.

It was a long time since I had done any knitting, and so it was very helpful to have the experience of others to draw upon.  I need not have worried though, as I was not alone in my endeavours and for some knitting was a whole new experience. I was impressed at just how many people were involved, and we had a fun morning.

The deadline for knitted poppies to be handed in to the Village Centre is the 30th October 2015.

I’m looking forward to seeing the finished poppies proudly in place for Remembrance Sunday.
