The decision by the elected West Midlands Police & Crime Commissioner to close Aldridge Police Station is simply wrong and rides rough shod over our local communities.

Last week I joined colleagues from across the West Midlands in the House of Commons for the debate on Police Station closures.

I have consistently campaigned against the closure of Aldridge Police Station and I will continue to oppose this reckless plan, which ignores the concerns and views of residents.

Under the plans of this Police and Crime Commissioner, and his predecessor, there will be only 1 police station left in the Borough of Walsall – this means no station at all on the east side of the Borough. What’s more, the PCC also plans to close the neighbouring stations at Kingstanding and Sutton Coldfield.

This is outrageous. And despite being promised a consultation, the PCC has simply ploughed on with his plans. We deserve better than this.

As colleagues at the debate explained, the picture is the same across the West Midlands, and I was pleased our voices and views were able to be shared with the Minister in the House of Commons.
