There is a strong community spirit that is evident right across my Aldridge-Brownhills constituency and this is due to the amazing contribution of volunteers. Week in and week out I see how hard so many volunteers work for community groups, churches, charities and ensure that there is strong sense of pride in our local area.

West Midlands Mayor, Andy Street has launched the region’s first Community Champion awards, calling on residents to nominate someone who has made a significant contribution to their local area.
The aim of these awards is to shine a light on how the wide-ranging community work in the West Midlands is bringing people from different backgrounds together. Anyone can nominate an individual living in the WMCA area who they feel has had a positive impact on their local community.

The deadline for nominations is 19 February and the awards will be announced at a special event on 5 March.
