Autism is one of many subjects that constituents have been writing to me about recently. I therefore particularly welcome the Government’s announcement of new measures to improve the care system for people with autism and learning disabilities.
Learning disabilities and autism are one of the four clinical priorities in our NHS Long Term Plan. Too many people with learning disabilities and autism are admitted to hospital when this could have been avoided or they remain in hospital too long, and too often there are instances of poor care.
The new measures will include funding specialists and independent advocates to work with families, joining up care services.
As a Government we are committed to improving care for autistic people and those with learning disabilities to ensure that they receive the high quality, sensitive and compassionate care they deserve.
